Note: I’ve redesigned my blog top to bottom. Kinks are still being worked out. Feedback welcome, and I hope you enjoy.
These are the stories that interest me today:
Capt. Richard Phillips has been freed and three of his four captors killed. Details are sketchy at press time. [UPDATE: He “jumped overboard from the lifeboat where he was being held, and U.S. Navy SEALs shot and killed three of his four captors, according to a senior U.S. official with knowledge of the situation.” Wow.]- Pastor Rick Warren bowed out of an appearance on George Stephanopoulous’ This Week “just moments” before going on, as contradictory claims about his stance on gay marriage are coming to light. Last week Warren told Larry King he “never once” endorsed Calif.’s Prop 8 banning gay marriage. Since then, video footage on YouTube has appeared in which he directly urges viewers to support the measure.
- Dude, where’s my Chief Tech Officer? TechCrunch asks a fair question. Sure, we’ve got a Chief Information Officer, but a CTO could knit together a whole sack of issues that have a tech component, from health care to homeland security to the Open Government Initiative.
- The co-founders of Skype, which sold to eBay four years ago, are reportedly raising money to buy it back. I love Skype and want it to win in the space it’s in. There is no better video conference utility. My big question: without deep pockets (eBay), can Skype stay afloat? It has a huge user base but still. (I’m “bradkrourke” on Skype.)
- 50-50 electorate and razor thin margins are ushering in an era of “endless elections,” sez Politico. Just look at Minnesota’s six-month Senate recount. My take: They weren’t endless already?
